MIAD at MKE Airport

MIAD invites proposals for two-dimensional artwork to be exhibited at Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport in Summer 2025.
Submitted work should consider the context of an airport, travel, wanderlust and/or positive messaging, keeping the airport’s diverse audience in mind.
The exhibition space is a 37-foot long by 9-foot high wall in Concourse D, serving Spirit, Delta and American Airlines. This is the airport’s second busiest concourse, serving over 2,000 people daily, including travelers, visitors and airport staff.
The selected artist will receive a $1,400 production and installation budget, along with an $800 artist stipend. MIAD gallery staff will coordinate general production and oversee installation, adhering to TSA guidelines and training.
This call is for pre-existing or work that can be easily adapted to fit the available wall space in the concourse. Sculptural and digital installations are not eligible at this time. All proposed work must be two-dimensional and, if including original artwork, must be framed or housed under a protective cover for the final installation. The included production budget can cover this expense if the work is not already framed.
MIAD will review all proposals received by the deadline and then present a shortlist to airport staff for final selection and approval. Artists whose proposals are shortlisted for final review may be asked to make minor revisions to the proposal for clarity.
This call for art is open to all MIAD students, faculty, staff and alumni. Selected artists must wait two years before applying again.
Budget
- $1,400 for production of pre-existing or easily adaptable artwork (including framing, printing and other installation elements). MIAD Galleries will assist in keeping costs achievable for a successful installation. You are encouraged to use up to the full $1,400 budget, should your proposal require it. You do not need to use the entire budget to be considered for this opportunity.
- $800 artist stipend.
Proposal Requirements
- 5-7 images of work samples being considered for the installation.
- Visual draft proposal showing how the work will occupy the 37-foot wall.
- Up to 500 word statement of intent for the proposed work.
- Proposed use of the $1,400 production budget.
- Artist biography and CV.
Timeline
- March 19: Proposals due by 11:59pm
- March 20 – April 17: Proposals reviewed MIAD gallery and airport staff
- April 18: Selected artist notified
- May 1 – June 13: Installation by MIAD gallery staff
- Late June, early July: Public reveal
