Dylan Wallace

Nestled in a corner of MIAD’s Gallery at the Ave is the work of Dylan Wallace, a MIAD 2020 Interior Architecture and Design alum. His work is part of our inaugural exhibition, “From This Point Forward.” Metal sculpture, ceramics, and furniture design describe just some of the work he has on display. He completely activates the entirety of the space he’s given. With such a diverse body of work

He completely activates the entirety of the space he’s given. His diverse body of work is presented boldly– leaving no wall, ceiling, or part of the floor untouched. Be sure to check it out!

Nestled in a corner of MIAD’s Gallery at the Ave is the work of Dylan Wallace, a MIAD 2020 Interior Architecture and Design alum. His work is part of our inaugural exhibition, “From This Point Forward,” on display until July 6th. As he’s a designer by trade, I’m really intrigued by his steps to explore playful sculpture of all shapes and sizes. He completely activates the entirety of the space he’s given. His diverse body of work is presented boldly– leaving no wall, ceiling, or part of the floor untouched.

The most exciting of his work to me is his series of small works that can fit right in the palm of your hand. Natural forms like pollen, diatoms, and rocks are given personality and character as Wallace transforms them with fire lake clay, aluminum, and eggshells encased within resin. There’s a fun humor to seeing a smooth, featureless chicken made entirely of egg shells, and to see such a microscopic organism given weight and a shiny aluminum body. Sitting right above these small works is a series of two works that blur the line between painting and sculpture, made with burlap and plaster and illuminated with LED lights, which brings these inanimate materials to life.
